Temptation of Ukiyo brand relationship that can sustain a Western gaze with Japanese culture and society.

is the desire to capture the Ukiyo, capture a representation of this "floating world", evanescent and fleeting as it is designated with the term Ukiyo. It is also more modest wish of being one with his environment, away from all ideas of the exotic, to approach the world by focusing on its details, its peripheries.

Francois Cavelier has hired a photographic essay on Japan since 2008. He is interested in cultural phenomena such as gastronomy, Fujisan to grasp the social dimensions that are the relations of individuals to their environment, the organization of life in society.

His work is part of the culture of American photographers such as Stephen Shore and William Eggleston in particular their ability to grasp the real one era and culture by tapping into the roots of everyday life but also making space for each photograph a full subjects.
